Unconditional Love
So I've really been going through a dark period of life recently and it's been so depressing. Like it really felt as though my prayers weren't being answered until last week when I heard a sermon entitled "The Darkest Hour". This sermon literally broke me down to tears. I tried to hold them back but I couldn't fight the power of the Holy Spirit.
The pastor portrayed the crucifixion of Jesus in a way that's never been presented before. Imagine this... Jesus on the cross. He cries out for His Father, our Father,God. But he can't see Him. Because of the amount of sin that was weighed upon Jesus, God wasn't able to be near Him. However God was there. He was present. The pastor said "God covered himself with darkness whilst he watched his one and only son die because none of us could be in the presence of God without dying". Do you realise how deep that is? God gave us his son. He watched his son die. His son thought He had forsaken Him but He hadn't ... God was right there in Jesus's darkest hour. God is also right there in our darkest hour.

Even now I struggle to comprehend the love and mercy God bestows upon us each day. Like we seriously do not deserve it. Well I know I don't. The amount of breakdowns I've had and ended up doubting God yet He persistently calls me home to Him and fights my battles. One thing that is key to remember is that the battle has actually already been won. Victory is already ours through Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour. It's just for us to accept this unconditional love.
Many people question if God was so loving why do bad things happen? The answer is in Ephesians 6:12 which says "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." More simply put, there is a battle going on between good and evil just because you can't see it does not mean it's not going on. The devil wants to break you down and tear you away from God. Funny thing is he himself knows he's lost the battle already, he just wants to bring you down with him. But stay strong and cling onto the love of Jesus because it is so wonderful. Additionally, trials are allowed in order to shape us into the character that Christ wants us to be. We just have to recognise this and stay tenacious.
One verse that brings me joy is Revelation 21:4 which says "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." I think the verse really speaks for itself.
One song that reminds me of God and his unconditional love is Made A Way by Travis Greene. The lyrics really just speak such truth. I encourage you to listen to that song in your own time. I really hope and pray that someone that reads this finds God's love because even through the pain just his love alone will keep you going. He never promised that problems wouldn't arise but He did promise that He would never leave our side. As usual, I pray this touches hearts and if you ever need somebody to talk to or you have any prayer requests I'm really here for you.
